Q&A with Destiny

How do you manage your time so successfully at 13, and what is your secret to giving 100% to so many activities?

I stay organized by using a planner and keeping a schedule so I know what I have each day. My family also helps me stay on track and supports me with everything I do. I always remind myself to be present wherever I am. When I’m at volleyball, I focus on volleyball. When I’m at dance, I give dance my full attention. I think the secret is loving what you do. When you’re passionate about something, working hard doesn’t feel like a chore.

How do you switch mindsets from wrestling or volleyball to the pageant stage?

Even though they seem very different, they actually have a lot in common. Wrestling and volleyball have taught me discipline, confidence, and how to stay calm under pressure. Pageantry and modeling allow me to express myself and be creative. Before every activity, I remind myself what my goal is and focus on doing my best. No matter where I am, I always try to represent myself with confidence and kindness.

Can you share a specific time when a lesson from sports or dance helped you overcome a challenge in pageantry or acting?

Dance and sports have taught me that mistakes are part of learning. If I miss a move or lose a match, I don’t give up—I work harder. That mindset has helped me in pageants and acting because sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned. Instead of getting discouraged, I’ve learned to stay positive, keep practicing, and believe in myself.

How does the teamwork in dance compare to competing individually in pageantry?

I love both because they teach me different things. Dance has shown me how important teamwork, trust, and encouraging each other can be. In pageantry, I’m competing as an individual, but I still have an amazing support system behind me. Both experiences have taught me that success isn’t just about winning—it’s about learning, growing, and supporting others.

What advice would you give young girls who are afraid to try something new?

I would tell them not to let fear stop them from trying. It’s okay to be nervous because everyone feels that way sometimes. The hardest part is taking the first step. You never know what you’re capable of until you try, and even if things don’t go perfectly, you’ll still learn something valuable.

As your platform grows, how do you plan to stay humble?

My family keeps me grounded and reminds me to always be thankful for every opportunity. I know that none of this would be possible without the people who support me. I want to continue treating everyone with kindness and respect because that’s more important than any title or award.

Why is community service important to you, and what’s your favourite way to give back in El Paso?

Community service is important because even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s life. I enjoy volunteering because it gives me the chance to meet new people and help others. Being able to represent my community through pageantry also gives me the opportunity to encourage others to get involved and make a difference.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

I would tell my younger self to believe in herself and not be afraid to try new things. I would remind her that it’s okay to make mistakes because every experience helps you grow. Most importantly, I would tell her to enjoy the journey, work hard, and never stop chasing her dreams.
